The lands of Faerun are rich with spoken languages and older dialects which are "dead"; these are languages were are merely academic or studied for historical purposes. The following are languages which are considered common, though it is not assumed you can speak or even understand them.
Script Spoken across Faerun as a trade language, Script is used by merchants, nobles, diplomats and soldiers to communicate across linguistical barriers. Its not uncommon farmers, commoners and day laborers to pick up a working knowledge of the language.
Teran Spoken by humans, "earth speech" or "common" is a language spoken almost universally by Humans, Eldrin and Dwarves.
Elder A conglomerate of older languages that are spoken only among the Eldren or studied by scholars. The term refers to the old languages, many not even native to the "Elves" and have become used to translate old manuscripts, books and other information from before the Great Devastation.
Dwarvish Called Deepspeech by scholars, the language includes many spoken words and terms from the lands beneath the mountains and spoken in the dark. Its often used in engineering and clockwork manufacturing, known as Steamcraft.
Huldin A eloquent language spoken by the Huldofolk. It is sometimes used to write poetry and used in academic circles for its beauty and complex form.
Orcish A butchered and harsher sounding version of Dwarvish which us spoken by Orcs and Orges. Full of excellent slurs and foul language.
Gnomish Perhaps not as beautiful or complex, it is one of the main languages used in magical studies, tomes and recording magical spells.
Hand Sign Combining a series of hand gestures and motions, along with body language and faciel expressions, hand sign is used primarily by the deaf and mute.
